An Introduction to Treaties, Tribal Sovereignty and Ceded Territory

A presentation on the importance of treaties and treaty rights will be given by Jenny Van Sickle on Thursday, May 11th at Lake of the Torches Convention Center in Lac du Flambeau. Doors open at 6:00 pm and the presentation starts at 6:30 pm.

Jenny Van Sickle, BSW (Tlingit/Athabascan) is a key member of the Public Information Office of Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission (GLIFWC) in Odanah. The presentation is co-sponsored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW), the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, the League of Women Voters of the Northwoods, and WXPR.

This event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served. It is also suggested that participants pick up and read a copy of the booklet Ojibwe Treaty Rights (GLIFWC) before the presentation. It is available free of charge at the front desk of the Lac du Flambeau Public Library, the Minocqua Public Library, and the Rhinelander District Library.

The presentation will be recorded and posted on LWVNOW’s website (www.lwvnow.org) and YouTube channel (LWVNOW Information). For release purposes, attendees will be asked to sign in.
